Keep an eye on those implants for residual cement: it’s extremely common and doesn’t always show up on radiographs, especially on the buccals & linguals. Watch for chronic inflammation, suppuration and remember your gentle probing.
The current literature is promoting using only a thin film of cement around the margin when cementing implant crowns which is helping minimize this problem.
However, until recently it was still common practice to load up the crown with cement, which inevitably causes excess to flow gingivally. Even with careful technique, it’s not uncommon to radiographically see flecks of cement around implant crown margins when the crowns were cemented this way.
If you are seeing a patient for their first recall after an implant crown was cemented, but extra diligent about inspecting the subgingival surfaces for any remnants.
